Hey! My name is Brokk Mowrey. No, that’s not a spelling mistake – my name has 2 k’s. I am a photographer who loves everything about the outdoors (even the smells). It’s not unusual to find me crawling through underbrush or trudging waist deep into a river to get a better angle or the right light to achieve the best shots. I am an adventurous soul! Photography has given me the ability to get out and do what I love, explore, create, and adventure in new places. I really enjoy sharing my adventures and knowledge with others through my work and personal interaction, so if you ever see me in the field, come on over and say ‘hi!’ I would be more than happy to let you look through my lens at a bear, eagle, or whatever the subject may be. Hope to see you all out there!
Artistic Vision:
My photography is about the experiences I have and the time I am able to spend in the field. This concept of “discovering what’s wild” has been one that has taken shape over the years I’ve spent photographing the natural world. I used to believe that one needed to travel to the ends of the earth, in remote areas, to find what’s truly wild. Through my experiences, however, I have found ‘wild’ isn’t just about being in a remote wilderness or with an elusive wild animal. Wild can be found in our very own state, city, or even backyard. In a world wrought with standards, rules, and labels, Wild, stands out as the world unedited. It’s those moments that I endlessly search for and strive to capture -nature as it was meant to be, wild and free. Whether it be a Brown Bear in the middle of the Alaskan wilderness, or an American Avocet raising her young beside a freeway, or even young children playing in a large mud puddle while a herd of water buffalo walk by. My passion is capturing and sharing what’s wild in the natural world.
Personal Vision:
Through my photography, I hope to bring a voice to the natural world, to help humanity reconnect to the wild and see the world through a different point of view. With an ever-increasing human population, it’s becoming more and more difficult to conserve land/wildlife. I am a big believer in giving back, so my personal vision includes a plan to donate a portion of my proceeds to both conservation and humanitarian aid projects, as I believe they are both connected and necessary for the other.
